Power-Train Warranty Versus Bumper-To-Bumper: What You Should Know

Purchasing a new vehicle is usually the largest purchase, after a home, that a person is likely to make. As such you want to be as well informed about the type of vehicle you are buying, including what it is worth, what features you desire, and whether you will be buying new or pre-owned. It can be easy to forget when researching all of this information that you also need to consider the type of warranty your vehicle comes with and whether or not it is appropriate for you.

There are two main types of warranties usually offered with a vehicle, the power-train warranty, and the bumper-to-bumper warranty. A power-train warranty covers only those parts of the vehicle that is part of the main drive system, that includes things like the engine, transmission, and other major mechanical parts.

A bumper-to-bumper warranty on the other hand usually covers all parts of the vehicle excluding body panels. It can include things like the HVAC system, the electronics and audio, and other parts of the drive-train. They typically are costlier and run out sooner, however.
